Task 1. Setting up a new Language Project

You will learn to create a new Language Project.
Preparation
To prepare for this task, start LinguaLinks Workshops.
Setting up a Language Project
1. In Workshop Explorer, go to Projects, click
,
and select Add New Project.
2. In Create/Modify a Language Project, select Create a New
Language Project and click
.
3. In Identify the Project’s Language, click
.
Setting up a Language Definition
1. In Create/Modify a Language Definition, select Create
a New Language Definition and click
.
2. In Search the Ethnologue, do the following:
1. Choose Select the Major Region of the World Where the Language Is Spoken.
2. Select one of the areas and click
.
3. In Select a Country, choose the appropriate country and
click
.
4. In Select the Language, choose the appropriate language
and click
.
5. In Creating Encodings Using the LinguaLinks Shortcut, do the following:
1. Select Express Setup.
2. Choose the appropriate Generic Language.
Tip: If a generic language is unavailable, choose Generic ANSI.
3. Clear the "Will You Be Using the Americanist Transcription
System?" check box and click
.
6. In Create the Language Definition, verify your selection
and click
.
7. In General Information, verify the Language Name and Identification
Code and click
.
8. In Add/Modify Encodings for the Language, click
.
Continuing to set up a Language Project
1. In Identify the Project’s Language, click
.
2. In Orthographic Decisions, do the following:
1. For the language ANSI encoding, select Technical and Practical.
2. For the IPA encoding, select Technical and Phonetic and
click
.
3. In Create Data Objects, do the following:
1. Select New Lexical Database and click
.
2. In Choose One, select the IPA encoding
for the Base Form and click
.
3. In Create Data Objects, click
.
Tip: If you get an Uninstalled Fonts message, go to the LinguaLinks CD-ROM and manually install the missing fonts.
4. In Workshop Explorer, verify that the language code and name appear in the Projects menu.
