Task 17. Working with Lexical Relations
Learning objective
You will learn to set up Pair Lexical Relations, Simple Set Lexical Relations, Scale Lexical Relations, and Tree Lexical Relations to show semantic relationships between lexemes.
Preparation
To prepare for this task, open the Lexical Database Editor.
Opening a Lexical Relation set
Open a Pair Relations set
1. On the menu, click Tools…Lexical Relation Set Chooser.
2. In Currently Defined Relations, go to PAIR RELATIONS and
double-click
.
Result: Expands the outline (cannot use items in all caps).
3. Click individual-group.
4. In Sets for Selected Relation, select Animal Groups, and click OK.
Result: Adds the current entries to the Senses of Selected Set pane.
5. In the Individual-group Set Editor, look at the data, and then close the window.
Open a Scale Relations set
1. On the menu, click Tools…Lexical Relation Set Chooser.
2. In Currently Defined Relations, go to SCALE RELATIONS
and double-click
.
3. Click development.
4. In Sets for Selected Relation, click Human growth, and click OK.
Result: Adds the current entries to the Senses of Selected Set pane.
5. In the Development Set Editor, scroll to look at the data, and then close the window.
Open a Simple set
1. On the menu, click Tools…Lexical Relation Set Chooser.
2. In Currently Defined Relations, go to SIMPLE SETS and
double-click
.
3. Click synonym.
4. In Sets for Selected Relation, click Rapid In Movement, and click OK.
Result: Adds the current entries to the Senses of Selected Set pane.
5. In the Synonym Set Editor, double-click quick 1, then close the Sense Editor.
6. In the Synonym Set Editor, scroll to look at the data, and then close the window.
Open a Tree Relations set
1. On the menu, click Tools…Lexical Relation Set Chooser.
2. In Currently Defined Relations, go to TREE RELATIONS and
double-click
.
3. Click generic-specific.
4. In Sets for Selected Relation, click Color Set, and click OK.
Result: Adds the current entries to the Senses of Selected Set pane.
5. In the Generic-specific Set Editor, click color 1.
6. Look at the Sense information in the lower pane, and then close the window.
