Task 20. Creating a Scale Lexical Relations set

Learning objective

You will learn to use Scale Lexical Relations sets. The set names display alphabetically in the middle pane when you select their type.

Preparation

In the Lexical Database Editor, go to Major Entry: Morning.

Adding and naming the Lex. Relations set

1. Go to the Sense: Morning 1.1 section and click .

2. In Currently Defined Relations, go to SCALE RELATIONS and double-click .

3. Select calendar.

4. At the bottom, click .

5. In Calendar Set Editor, select the Name box and type Times of day.

Adding an existing Entry as a Member

1. In the right pane below Positive Members, double-click <LexSetItem>.

Result: Creates an insertion point for the new set member.

2. Select <LexSenseOrSimpleSet>.

3. In the left pane, select morning 1.1.

4. At the top of the right pane, click .

Result: Links the Sense 1.1 of morning to the Lexical Relation set, Times of day.

Adding a new Entry as another Member

1. In the right pane, below morning 1.1 double-click the <LexSetItem> insertion point.

Result: Creates another insertion point for the new set member.

2. Select <LexSenseOrSimpleSet>.

3. On the LinguaLinks Workshops menu beside , click .

4. In Insert Major Entry, type afternoon as the Base Form and click OK.

5. For Parts of Speech, double-click common noun.

6. In the Calendar Set Entry afternoon 1 box, click <Eng> and type the time of day from high noon until dusk.

7. Repeat Steps 1–5 for evening.

8. Close the Calendar Set Editor and press Ctrl+Y.

Result: Refreshes the Lexical Database Editor and beside , adds Cal: morning 1.1, afternoon, evening.
