Classification Tai-Kadai, Kam-Tai, Be-Tai, Tai-Sek, Tai, Southwestern, East Central, Northwest.
Comments No longer spoken in daily life, but used in religious chants and literary materials. Former language of the Tai-Ahom King. Possibly 8,000,000 Assamese speakers claim to be of Ahom descent (A. Diller 1990). Extinct.
