Population 25,000 in Cameroon (1980 Phillips). Population total both countries 28,200.
Region Scattered in the southeast of East Province: Boumba and Ngoko, Kadey, and Upper Nyong divisions; Dja and Lobo Division, South Province. Also spoken in Gabon.

Comments Bayanga of CAR may be a dialect. Nomadic but being encouraged by the government to settle along the roadways. Different from Baka of DRC and Sudan. Dictionary. Tropical forest.

Comments 'Babinga' is used for the Baka, Aka, and Gieli; separate Pygmy languages; it means 'Pygmy'. The name 'Aka' may not be used in Gabon. Dispersed in small groups. Nomadic. Tropical forest. Hunter-gatherers, fishermen. Traditional religion. See main entry under Cameroon.
