Population 2,000,000 in Pakistan (1998), 1.2% of the population. Population total all countries 2,210,000.
Region South central, Quetta and Kalat region, east Baluchistan and Sind provinces. Also spoken in Afghanistan, Iran, Turkmenistan.

Dialects JHARAWAN, KALAT, SARAWAN.
Classification Dravidian, Northern.
Comments Kalat is the standard dialect, Jharawan is lowland. Some bilingualism in Western Balochi. Literacy rate in first language: Below 1%. Literacy rate in second language: Below 5%. Nastaliq script used. Pastoralists. Muslim. Bible portions 1905-1978.
