Population 1,500 speakers out of 2,100 population (1987 SIL). Both Carrier languages have 2,190 mother tongue speakers (1998 Statistics Canada). All Athapaskan language family mother tongue speakers in Canada 20,090 (1998 Statistics Canada). 
Region Central British Columbia, Stuart and Fraser Lake area.

Comments Bilingualism in English. Mainly adults. In some communities vigorous among adults. Most children and young adults prefer English. Dictionary. Grammar. Literacy rate in first language: 5% to 10%. Literacy rate in second language: 50% to 75%. Bilingual literacy materials used in schools. NT 1995.
