Population 10 speakers or fewer (1991 R. Blench), out of an ethnic group of 29,836 (1993 census). 
Region East Batha Prefecture, Oum Hadjer Subprefecture, and Ouaddaï Prefecture, Am Dam Subprefecture.
Classification Nilo-Saharan, Maban, Mabang, Masalit.
Comments Nearly all now speak Chadian Arabic. The Massalat originally separated from the Masalit along the Sudan border and moved west. Muslim. Nearly extinct.
