Population 103,600 in Myanmar (1983 census). Population total both countries 103,600 or more.
Region Kachin State, eastern border area, north Myanmar. Also spoken in China.

Dialects DAGO' LAWNG BIT, ZAGARAN MRAN, GAWAN NAW', HLO'LAN, LAKING, WA KHAWK, LAWNG HSU.
Classification Sino-Tibetan, Tibeto-Burman, Lolo-Burmese, Burmish, Northern.
Comments Lawng Hsu may have difficult intelligibility with the other dialects. Different from the Matu variety of Khumi Chin. Culture similar to Kachin. SOV. Literacy rate in first language: Below 1%. Literacy rate in second language: 25% to 50%. NT 1994.
