Population 134,000 (1997 IMA). 
Region Maharashtra, Garhichiroli (Chanda) District; Madhya Pradesh.
Alternate names   MADI, MADIYA, MADIA, MODH, MODI
Dialects BHAMANI MARIA (BHAMANI), ADEWADA, ETAPALLY MARIA.
Classification Dravidian, South-Central, Gondi-Kui, Gondi.
Comments Etapally Maria is apparently understood by all. A separate language from Muria, Dandami Maria, Northern Gondi, Southern Gondi, and Koya. 76% to 77% intelligibility of other Gondi varieties. May be intelligible with Abujmaria. 53% to 83% lexical similarity among dialects. Use in all domains nearly always. Speakers have negative attitudes toward the varieties mentioned above. A Scheduled Tribe in India. Investigation needed: intelligibility with Abujmaria. Literacy rate in first language: Below 1%. Literacy rate in second language: 25% to 50%. Hindu, traditional religion.
