Population 1,000 (1994). 
Region Chitral frontier, 60 miles up the Kunar River from Gawar-Bati, on the west side, Darrai Mazar Valley. Shumast village has two languages; this Dardic Kunar language, and a Northeast Pashayi dialect.

Comments 63% lexical similarity with Nangalami (Grangali), 47% with Gawar-Bati. Heavily influenced by Pashayi. Literacy rate in first language: Below 1%. Literacy rate in second language: 5% to 15%. Muslim.
