Population  19. Known by most people on the Island including 19 born deaf out of 2,500 to 3,000 population (W. Washabaugh 1986).
Region  Providencia Island off Nicaraguan coast.
Dialects  Not exposed to other sign languages. East differs from west with some variation between villages.
Classification  Deaf sign language
Language development  Do not use finger spelling.
Comments  High deaf population probably caused by in-breeding. Deaf fairly well integrated into daily activities. The system is about 100 years old. Nearly extinct.
