Region  Kerala, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, Koliam, Pathanamthitta, Alleppey, Trivandrum districts.
Alternate names   Katan, Kattalan, Kochuvelan, Ulladan
Classification  Dravidian, Southern, Unclassified
Language use  May have no remaining speakers. Most, if not all, have shifted to Malayalam [mal]. Prefer to be considered Malayalis rather than Ullatan.
Language development  Literacy rate in L2: 72-82% (2001 census).
Comments  Ulladan and Kochu Velan are both Scheduled Tribes. Animal husbandry; salaried jobs; wage labor. Traditional religion, Hindu. Nearly extinct.
