Task 18. Creating a Simple Set Lexical Relations Set
Learning objective
You will learn to add three new entries and to use the Auto-Set Thesaurus Links feature.
Preparation
Open a Major Entry Editor. Insert a Major Entry for each of these words: doctor, physician, and surgeon, filling in Entry Type, Part of Speech and Gloss. Also click Tools…Auto Set Thesaurus Links for each of these entries.
Adding a new Lexical Relations Set
1. Click

2. In Currently Defined Relatons, go to SIMPLE SETS and double-click
.
3. Select similar.
4. Click
.
5. In the Similar Set Editor, click the Name box and type, Medical Occupations for the new set.
Linking an existing Entry
1. In the right pane, double-click <LexSetItem>.
Result: Creates an insertion point for the new set member.
2. Select <LexSenseOrSimpleSet>.
3. In the left pane, select surgeon 1.
4. Click
at
the top of the right pane.
Linking an entry using a Thesaurus category
1. In the right pane, double-click <LexSetItem> below surgeon 1.
Result: Creates an insertion point for the new set member.
2. Select and double-click <LexSenseOrSimpleSet>.
3. In the left pane, select the middle box.
4. At the top of the left pane, click
.
5. Select the Thesaurus category, 4.14.1.9 Health Care and click OK.
Result: Adds all senses in the Lexical Database that are linked to this thesaurus category.
6. Select doctor 1 and click
at
the top of the right pane.
7. Do the same for physician 1.
8. Close the Similar Set Editor and press Ctrl+Y.
