Task 27. Analyzing a new Wordform
Learning objective
You will learn to analyze Wordforms not in the Lexical Database, add multiple Sense combinations, add multiple Analyses, and delete and assign an Analysis.
Preparation
Open Workshop Explorer and go to English sentence fragments.
Analyzing a Wordform that is not in the Lexical Database
1. Go to ¶1s4 and double-click to.
2. In Wordform Inventory Editor: Assign Analyses, in the upper left pane, double-click to.
3. In Analysis Editor From Wordform Inventory Editor:Assign Analyses, for the WfPOS, select preposition, and type à (Alt+0224) for the French PreWfGlos.
4. Skip Morph Breaks and click OK.
5. For the Type, choose root.
6. For the LexEntry, click
.
7. In Insert Major Entry, click OK.
Result: Adds to as a Major Entry to the Lexical Database. Fills in the LexPOS from the WfPOS and fills in the LexGloss from the PreWfGlos.
Adding multiple Sense Combinations
1. In the Analysis Editor beside Sense Combination 1, click
or
.
2. On the menu, click Edit…Insert (or on the toolbar,
click
).
3. Beside the new Sense Combination at the end of the list,
double-click
.
Result: Expands the new Sense Combination.
4. For the LexSens, double-click <NewSense>.
5. For the LexPOS, go to Verb and select Infinite (Infinitive).
6. For the LexGloss, go to <FRN> and type INF.
Adding multiple Analyses
1. In the Analysis Editor, beside Analysis 1, click

2. On the menu, click Edit…Insert (or on the toolbar,
click
).
3. Beside the new Analysis at
the end of the list, double-click
.
4. For the WfPOS, select Adverb.
5. For the PreWfGlos, type test, separate it into morphs as appropriate, and click OK.
6. For the LexSens, select <NewSense>.
7. Continue editing the LexPOS, LexGloss, and Analysis level information.
8. On the toolbar, select the square beside Outline.
Result: Opens the Outline view.
Deleting and assigning an Analysis
1. Beside Analysis 2, click
.
2. On the toolbar, click Edit…Delete.
3. Close Analysis Editor From Wordform Inventory Editor:Assign Analyses.
4. In Wordform Inventory Editor: Assign Analyses, click à (Alt+0224) under the first analysis in the upper right pane.
5. If the instances of to in the lower pane all are preposition, click
.
Result: Assigns the preposition analysis to each of these instances of to in these sentences.
6. Close the Wordform Inventory Editor: Assign Analyses.
Result: Shows the analyzed Wordform to.
