Task 41. Working with filters
Learning objective
You will learn to select various Entry records from your Lexical Database using filters. There are six basic types of filters:
| Authority list | Data of a particular category |
| Complex | Combination of simple filters |
| CQL query | Entries with/without certain type of data or having multiple senses, or comparing form fields |
| Occurrence | Presence or absence of data in fields |
| Range | Of alphabet—e.g., all entries Alm-Cyb |
| Search | For entries with particular letters or words in a particular field |
Preparation
Open the English Lexical Database.
Using a Filter
Caution: Currently a Filter cannot be used to limit the scope of any Auto-set Index, Auto-set Thesaurus, or Auto-set OCM code command.
1. On the menu, click Go…Filter.
2. In Select Filter to Use, click CQL Query–Minor Entries and then click OK.
Result: Displays only records which match the filter (in this case, only Minor Entries) and lists the filter status in red on the bottom status bar.
3. On the toolbar, click
(or
on the menu, click Go…Search).
Result: Opens the Search window and allows you to select or clear the Limit Search to Results of Filter? box.
4. Select Limit Search to Results of Filter? and select several entries.
5. Clear Limit Search to Results of Filter?, select several
entries, and click
.
6. On the menu, click Go…Filter.
Result: Turns the Filter off.
7. In Select Filter to Use, select None (No Filter Active), and click OK.
Creating an Occurrence Filter
1. In the Lexical Database, go to the menu and click Go…Filter.
2. In Filters, click
,
select Occurrence, and click
.
Result: Adds New Filter to the list.
3. Click
.
4. In the Occurence Filter Editor, go to Name of Filter and type Glosses.
5. Go to Abbreviation, type GL, and click OK.
Creating a Sample Filter
1. In the Lexical Database, go to the menu and click Go…Filter.
2. In Filters, click
.
3. In Choose One, select a Sample Filter and click
.
Result: Adds a Sample Filter to the list.
Editing a Sample Filter
1. Select the Sample Filter you want to edit.
Tip: You can edit all normal Filters but cannot edit any italic Filters. Make a copy of an italic Filter and then edit the copy.
2. Click

3. In the Occurrence Filter Editor, make the desired changes, and click OK.
Moving a Gloss Filter
1. On the menu, click Go…Filter.
Tip: If you frequently change Filters, move the ones you use most often to the top of the list.
2. Select Glosses.
3. Click
until
Glosses is at the top of the list, and click OK.
Deleting a Gloss Filter
1. On the menu, click Go…Filter.
2. In Select Filter to Use, select Glosses.
3. Click
and
then click OK.
