Task 50. Working with Custom views
Learning objective
You will learn to create a special view which displays only desired fields and allows you to alternate between your Normal and Custom views.
Preparation
Open the English Lexical Database.
Creating a Custom view for a Lexical Database
Opening the Preferences
1. On the menu, click Options…Preferences.
2. For Preferences, click Lexical Database.
Adding a new View by copying an existing View
1. For Individual View Scope, select Data Entry–Norma and click Add.
Result: Makes a copy.
2. For Individual View Scope, select Data Entry–Copy of Normal
and click
.
3. In New Name For "Copy of Normal," type Solak’s view, and click OK.
4. For Preferences, click Data Entry–Solak's view.
Adjusting the settings for the new View
1. Go to "Below are View Components for a," click
and
select the desired category.
2. In the View Components in Order pane, select any undesired
component and click
.
Result: Moves component to the Unused Components pane.
3. In the Unused Components pane, select any desired component
and click
.
Result: Moves components to the View Components in Order pane.
4. When each component is in the desired pane, click OK.
Selecting Custom View in the Lexical Database
1. On the menu, click View…Data Entry–Normal.
2. In Choose One, select Solak’s view and click
.
3. Close the Lexical Database Editor.
Creating a Custom View of Interlinear Text
Opening the Preferences from Interlinear Text
1. In Workshop Explorer, go to Linguistics…Grammar and open Life begins each morning.
Tip: A minimal view can be useful to export texts to use in examples for papers.
2. On the menu, click Options…Preferences.
Adding a new View by copying an existing View
1. For Preferences, click Interlinear Text.
2. Go to the Individual View Scope pane, select Custom–Normal,
and click
.
3. Click
.
4. In New Name for "Copy of Normal," type Minimal, and click OK.
Adjusting the settings for the new View
1.For Preferences, click Custom–Minimal.
2. Click the Fields tab.
3. Clear all the fields except Wordform, Wordform Gloss, and Wordform Part of Speech.
4. Clear Include Field Labels.
5. Click the Translations tab.
6. In the Types to Show pane, select only Free Translation, and click OK.
7. On the menu, click File…Save Knowledge Base.

1. On the menu, click View…Custom–Normal.
2. In Choose One, select Minimal and click

3. Close the text window.
