The national language of the Democratic Republic is the kikongo ya léta or kikongo du gouvernement (Kituba = language code ktu)

Even in the constitution it is called Kikongo, it means the administrative Kikongo (Kituba), which is the lingua franca in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the Republic of Congo (different language code mkw). Kikongo or Koongo is the language both variants based on.

Editorial Action

We will move the language status currently listed with Kikoongo [kng] to Kituba [ktu] in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for the 19th edition of the Ethnologue.
