Ucayali and Madre de Dios regions; upper Purús river area.

5 (Developing). Recognized language (1993, Constitution, Article 48).

Dialects

Chandinahua, Marinahua (Marinawa), Mastanahua. Reportedly similar to Yaminahua [yaa] Chitonahua dialect and Yora [mts].

Language Use

Home on Purus River. All ages. 140 also use Spanish [spa]. Some intermarry with and use Spanish at home. Those with schooling use varying degrees of Spanish. Used as L2 by Amahuaca [amc].
