Task 19. Creating a Pair Relations Set

Learning objective

You will learn to add and link Lexical Relations Sets.

Preparation

Open the Lexical Database Editor and go to the Major Entry doctor.

Adding a new Lexical Relations Set

1. Click .

2. In Currently Defined Relations, go to PAIR RELATIONS and double-click .

3. Select benefactor-benefactee.

4. At the bottom of the window, click .

5. In the Benefactor-Benefactee Set Editor, select the Name box and type Occupations for the new set.

Linking the current Lexical Entry

1. Below Member A, double-click <Lexpair>.

Result: Creates an insertion point for the new set member.

2. Below Member A, select <LexSenseOrSimpleSet>.

3. In the left pane, select doctor 1.

4. At the top of the right pane, click .

5. Beside doctor 1, select <LexSenseOrSimpleSet>.

Linking new Lexical Entries

1. On the LinguaLinks Workshops toolbar beside , click .

2. In Insert Major Entry, click the Base Form box, type patient, and click OK.

3. In the Benefactor-Benefactee Set Editor below Member B, select patient 1.

4. In the bottom Member pane, do the following:

1. Beside patient 1, click .

2. For the Parts of Speech, double-click common noun.

3. At the <Eng> insertion point, for the Definition, type a sick person who is being looked after by a medical person.

5. In the top right pane below doctor 1, double-click <Lexpair>.

Result: Creates an insertion point for the new set member.

6. Select <LexSenseOrSimpleSet>.

7. Add a new entry, teacher as Member A and a new Entry, student as Member B.

Tip: Repeat Steps 1–6.

8. Close the Benefactor-Benefactee Set Editor and press Ctrl+Y.

9. On the menu, click File…Save Knowledge Base.
