Task 38. Working with the Index database
Learning objective
You will learn to use an Index (a reversal dictionary that is a resource for users unfamiliar with the language of the Lexical Database). You will also learn to look up a word in a familiar language to find the rough equivalent in the Lexical Database.
Preparation
Open the English Lexical Database and on the menu, click Options…Preferences. For Preferences, go to the Data Entry–Normal view and under Unused Components, select Index Links, move it to View Components in Order, and then move Index Links below Gloss.
Adding Index links automatically
Tip: You need to first gloss each Entry in your Lexical Database that you want to Index, because the program automatically copies the Gloss to the Index field exactly as it is. Carefully decide if you want the Gloss and Index to be I, my, me, 1sg, or all of these.
Caution: The scope of the automatic indexing depends on which Editor you use.
