Region  Mainly south to Shkumbi River. Also in Belgium, Croatia, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Turkey (Europe), Ukraine, United States.
Alternate names   Arnaut, Shkip, Shqip, Shqiperë, Skchip, Tosk, Zhgabe
Dialects  Arbanasi (Zadar), Srem (Syrmia), Camerija, Korca. Not intelligible with Arbëreshë [aae] of Italy. The basis of official Standard Albanian since 1952.

A member of macrolanguage Albanian [sqi] (Albania).
Language use  Official language. Schools.
Language development  Fully developed. Bible: 1993.
Writing system  Greek script, no longer in use. Latin script.
Comments  The Jevgjit claim to be Egyptian, but may be assimilated Roma. SVO. Peasant agriculturalists; animal husbandry: sheep; petroleum workers. Muslim, Christian.
