Population	600 in Colombia (1995 SIL), increasing. Almost no monolinguals. Population total all countries: 700.
Region	Southeastern Vaupés region, tributaries of mid and upper Pira-Paraná, upper Papurí and Tiquié, Mitú. Also in Brazil.

Language use	Passed on from fathers to children. Most domains, home, family, religion, local commerce, community. All ages. Positive attitude. 40%–50% speak Spanish as L2. Spanish is used in school and with government officials. All speak 2 to 4 of these: Tucano [tuo], Tatuyo [tav], Tuyuca [tue], Barasana [bsn], Yuruti [yui], Macuna [myy], Carapana [cbc], because of marriage patterns across language boundaries. Children speak the language of each parent, but identify with the father’s language.
Language development	Literacy rate in L1: 25%. Literacy rate in L2: 25%–40%. Letter writing between communities. Written form used in religious services. Bible portions: 1975–1994.
Writing system	Latin script.
Comments	SOV. Swidden agriculturalists. Christian, traditional religion.
