Region  South Alberta, Blackfoot, Piegan, and Blood Reserves. Also in United States.

Dialects  Piegan (Peigan), Blood.
Classification  Algic, Algonquian, Plains
Language use  Some efforts under way in schools on the reserves to promote knowledge and use of the language. Used for some traditional ceremonies. Mainly adults. Positive attitude. Most prefer to use English [eng]. Some also use Cree [crk].
Language development  Dictionary. Grammar. Bible portions: 1890–1980.
Writing system  Latin script. Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics script, no longer in use.
Comments  Christian, traditional religion.
