Population  11,000 (EDCL 1991). Older adults and a few middle aged are monolingual. Ethnic population: 11,000.
Region  North-central Sichuan Province, Pingwu, Nanping, and Songpan counties; Gansu Province, Wen County.

Language use  Vigorous among adults in Pingwu and Nanping counties. All domains. Neutral attitude. Schools use Chinese. About 1,000 Baima people use only Chinese.
Comments  Classified as Tibetan nationality. The Baima clan have a distinct ethnic identity from other Tibetans. SOV; initial consonant clusters; no consonantal codas; mostly monosyllabic morphemes; loans from Chinese and Tibetan; tonal, 4 tones. Agriculturalists; animal husbandry: chickens, pigs, sheep, cattle; beekeepers; forest conservation. Traditional religion.
