Population  2,060 (2001 Canada census). Canada Census does not separate Babine [bcr], Central Carrier[crx], and Southern Carrier L1 speakers in Canada 20,090 (1998 Statistics Canada). Ethnic population: 2,100 (1987 SIL).
Region  Central British Columbia, Stuart and Trembleur Lake area.

Language use  Mainly adults. Most children and young adults prefer English.
Language development  Literacy rate in L1: 5%–10%. Literacy rate in L2: 50%–75%. Taught in primary schools. Dictionary. Grammar. NT: 1995.
Writing system  Latin script. Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics script, no longer in use.
