Population  70,000 (Vanderaa 1991).
Region  Sikasso region (3rd), Kadiolo and Sikasso prefectures. Kai is largest town.

Alternate names   Du, Duungo, Mali Duun, Samogho, Samogo, Samoro, Western Duun
Classification  Niger-Congo, Mande, Western, Northwestern, Samogo
Language use  Most also use Bamanankan [bam] or French.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  ‘Samogho’ is the ethnic name used in Bambara, and is a cover term to include Duungooma [dux], Bankagooma [bxw], and Jowulu [jow]. Muslim, traditional religion.
