Region  Boquerón, Salado River, south of Chamacoco, north of Sanapaná, Loma Plata, Machete vayre, Castilla near Rio Mosquito, Rio Apa.

Dialects  Layana (Niguecactemigi), Echoaldi (Echonoana, Chararana). Similar to Sanapaná [sap].

Language use  Also use Paraguayan Guaraní [gug].
Comments  Guana, like Nhandeva [nhd], is catch-all name and this group of the Lengua family should not be confused with Guanas of other countries. [A separate Guana [gqn] (Kinikinao) is in Mato Grosso, Brazil, related to Chané [caj] of Argentina and Terena [ter] of Brazil (Arawakan; Voegelin and Voegelin 1977:216, 284; Ruhlen 1987:374, 375). Reportedly some Guana in Bolivia. Many live in large villages divided into 2 sections based on kinship; others live in scattered groups. Some intermarriage with other language groups]. Agriculturalists: maize; hunters; fishermen.
