Region	Northeast Peru, southwest Colombia. Ampiyacu, Putumayo, and Napo rivers; north of Amazon River between Iquitos, Peru and Leticia, Colombia on the south, Caquetá River north. Also in Colombia.

Language use	Official language. Shifting to Spanish. Recognized by Peruvian government for use in schools. Written and oral use in religious services. More prestigious in Colombia than in Peru. Also use Spanish. A few also speak Bora [boa].
Language development	Literacy rate in L1: Below 1%. Literacy rate in L2: 15%–25%. 95% of those under 40 are literate. Dictionary. Grammar. NT: 1978.
