Population  115,000 in Myanmar (2000). Population total all countries: 121,280.
Region  Main Kentung Valley in the center of Shan state. Also in Thailand.
Alternate names   Gon Shan, Hkun, Khuen, Khun Shan, Khyn, Tai Khun, Tai-Khuen
Dialects  Similar to Lü [khb] and Northern Tai or southern Shan [shn]. The Lanna and Khun spoken dialects are considered similar by their speakers.
Classification  Tai-Kadai, Kam-Tai, Be-Tai, Tai-Sek, Tai, Southwestern, Northwest
Language development  Bible portions: 1938.
Writing system  Lanna (Tai Tham) script. Myanmar (Burmese) script.
Comments  Different from Khuen [khf], a Mon-Khmer language of Laos. Buddhist.
