Population  50 (2003 S. Morley). Ethnic population: Over 800.
Region  Assam, Tinsukia District, Pawaimukh village.
Alternate names   Khamiyang, Khamjang, Shyam, Tai Khamyang
Dialects  Similar to Phake [phk] of Assam and Shan [shn] of Myanmar.
Classification  Tai-Kadai, Kam-Tai, Be-Tai, Tai-Sek, Tai, Southwestern, Northwest
Language use  Shifting to Assamese [asm]. Mainly older adults. Older people also use Tai [taw], mainly for religion.
Language development  Literacy rate in L2: 58% Assamese [asm] (1981 census).
Comments  A Scheduled Tribe. Close affinity to the Khampti of Arunachal. Several thousand Assamese may use their ethnic group name. Buddhist. Nearly extinct.
