Population  180,000 in China (Bradley 2007), increasing. Population total all countries: 185,000.
Region  Yunnan Province, primarily southeast Simao Prefecture, Pu’er, Mojiang, and Jiangcheng counties. Also in Laos.

Classification  Sino-Tibetan, Tibeto-Burman, Burmic, Ngwi, Southern
Language use  Home, village. All ages. Most also use Chinese.
Comments  Classified as Hani nationality. Different from Kadu [kdv] in Myanmar. SOV; CV(V); a voiced-voiceless distinction only for fricatives; no tense or nasalized vowels; nouns mostly polysyllabic, other words mostly monosyllabic; many loanwords from Chinese; tonal, 8 tones.
