Population  8,000 (1991 SIL). 2,300 in South Sulawesi, 5,700 in Central Sulawesi.
Region  South Sulawesi, Luwu Utara District, Masamba subdistrict. 6 isolated mountain villages; Central Sulawesi, Poso, Donggala districts, Sabbang Limbong, Wotu, and Mangkutana subdistricts. 15 villages. Rato have moved elsewhere.

Dialects  Rampi (Lambu), Rato. Leboni is prestige dialect.

Language use  Vigorous in some villages.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  Swidden agriculturalists. Christian, Muslim.
