Population  850 (Lynch and Crowley 2001). Very few monolinguals.
Region  Shefa Province, Varmali region, Lamenu Island, Epi Island northwest tip; some in Sara village, Port Vila and Luganville.

Classification  Austronesian, Malayo-Polynesian, Central-Eastern, Eastern Malayo-Polynesian, Oceanic, Central-Eastern Oceanic, Remote Oceanic, North and Central Vanuatu, Northeast Vanuatu-Banks Islands, Epi, Lamenu-Baki, Lamenu-Lewo
Language use  Vigorous. Used in kindergarten, oral and some written use in church, oral use in commerce. Positive attitude. Most also use Bislama [bis]. Half also use some English or Paama [pma].
Language development  Literacy rate in L1: Below 1%. Literacy rate in L2: 15%–25%. Bible portions: 1987.
Comments  Population of Lamenu and Epi was over 14,000, but was reduced to 800 in early 1900s due to disease and economic dependence. Copra production; tourism; fishermen; agriculturalists. Christian.
