Population  420,000 (2007).
Region  North-central Yunnan Province in Luquan, Wuding, Lufeng, Yuanmo, Yongsheng, Dayao, Binchuan, Yuanmo, Yongren, Yao’an counties; south Sichuan Province, Renhe County.
Language map  Southwestern China
Alternate names   Central Lisu, Dayao, Eastern Lisu, Lolongo
Dialects  Western Lipo, Eastern Lipo. Both dialects are similar to Lisu [lis], but neither is intelligible with Lisu.
Classification  Sino-Tibetan, Tibeto-Burman, Burmic, Ngwi, Central
Language use  Home, village. All ages. Neutral attitude. Also use Chinese [cmn].
Language development  NT: 1951.
Writing system  Lisu (Fraser) script, no longer in use. Miao (Pollard) script.
Comments  100,000 are classified as Lisu nationality, and 150,000 are classified as Yi nationality. Some Lipo prefer to be called ‘Lolopo’ or ‘Lolongo’, especially in Yongren County. Christian, traditional religion.
