Population  10 (1991 R. Blench). Ethnic population: 29,836 (1993 census).
Region  Batha region, Batha Est Department, Oum Hadjer Subprefecture, and Ouaddaï region, Djourf-Al-Ahmar Department, Am Dam Subprefecture.
Classification  Nilo-Saharan, Eastern Sudanic, Nilotic, Western, Luo, Northern, Maban-Burun, Maban, Mabang, Masalit
Language use  Shifting to Chadian Spoken Arabic [shu].
Comments  The Massalat originally separated from the Masalit [mls] along the Sudan border and moved west. Muslim. Nearly extinct.
