Population  22,000 (2002).
Region  Iringa region, Ludewa District; Ruvuma region, Mbinga District; east shore of Lake Nyasa.

Alternate names   Kimanda, Kinyasa, Nyasa
Dialects  Matumba. The Matumba dialect is recognized as a distinct dialect but is completely intelligible with Manda.
Classification  Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, Benue-Congo, Bantoid, Southern, Narrow Bantu, Central, G, Bena-Kinga (G.60)
Language use  Vigorous. Used in low domains and to discuss high domains. For high domains, Swahili [swh] is used or mixed with Manda. All ages. Positive attitude.
Language development  NT: 1937.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  The Matumba see themselves as a separate group related to the Manda, while the Manda view them as a subgroup of the Manda. Fishermen; agriculturalists: cassava, corn, bananas, cashews. Christian.
