Population  308,000 (2001), increasing. 100,000 monolinguals. Ethnic population: 1,622,421 ethnic Magar (2001 census) which includes both Eastern and Western Magar.
Region  Bheri zone, Surkhet, Banke, and Dialekh districts, West of Pokhara, Tansen highway; Gandaki zone, Pokhara (Kaski) and Syangja districts; Koshi zone, Morang and Dhankuta districts; Lumbini zone, Nawalparasi District. Surkhet District is center.

Comments  Magar recognized as an official nationality. Agriculturalists; pastoralists. Traditional religion, syncretism with Buddhism and Hinduism.
