Population  25,900 (1998 Statistics Canada). Canada Census (2001) lists all Ojibwa varieties together as 30,505 population.
Region  Southern Ontario, north of Lake Ontario and east of Georgian Bay. East of north-south line through Bruce Peninsula base.

Alternate names   Ojibway, Ojibwe
Classification  Algic, Algonquian, Central, Ojibwa
A member of macrolanguage Ojibwa [oji] (Canada).
Language use  Dying out in many areas. Concerted effort via language teaching in public schools and other efforts to reverse decline. Also use English; some use other Ojibwa varieties.
Language development  Taught in primary schools. Dictionary. Grammar.
Writing system  Latin script. Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics script, no longer in use.
