A language of Cameroon

Population  30,000 (2000 SIL).
Region  East Province, Upper Nyong Division, Lomie area (north and northwest, south and southeast to Dja River).

Alternate names   Djimu, Dzimou, Kooncimo, Koozhime, Koozime, Nzime, Zimu
Dialects  Nzime (Koonzime), Badwe’e (Badjoue, Bajwe’e, Koozime).
Classification  Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, Benue-Congo, Bantoid, Southern, Narrow Bantu, Northwest, A, Makaa-Njem (A.80)
Language use  Many Baka Pygmies speak it as L2. All domains, public discourse, government information, oral and written use in church, oral literature. Positive attitude. Most also use French.
Language development  2,000 can read it, 50 can write it. Taught in primary schools. Radio programs. Dictionary. NT: 1998–2002.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  ‘Koonzime’ refers to the Nzime dialect, ‘Koozime’ to the Badwe’e dialect. Agriculturalists: coffee, cocoa; trappers. Christian.
