Population  20,000 (1987).
Region  South, widespread in Equatoria region, into Bahr al Ghazal and Upper Nile regions. Refugees have gone to other countries.
Alternate names   Juba Arabic, Pidgin Arabic, Southern Sudan Arabic
Dialects  Dialectal variations in different areas due to different local vernaculars.
Classification  Creole, Arabic based
A member of macrolanguage Arabic [ara] (Saudi Arabia).
Language use  Trade language. 44,000 L2 speakers. Used as the major language of communication in Equatoria, and south of Wau and Malakal. Used in religious services as L1 or L2 in Juba and other towns. Most people in towns speak at least 2 languages, including Creole Arabic [pga].
Language development  Bible portions: 1983–1985.
