Population  148,000 in Myanmar (1982). Population total all countries: 150,000.
Region  Northern Shan state, centered in Nam Hsan. Also in China.
Alternate names   Ta-Ang Palaung, Golden Palaung, Shwe Palaung, Liang, Ta’ang Samlung, Red Da’ang
Dialects  15 Palaung dialects in Myanmar. Pale Palaung [pce] and Rumai [rbb] are related, but distinct languages.
Classification  Austro-Asiatic, Mon-Khmer, Northern Mon-Khmer, Palaungic, Western Palaungic, Palaung
Language use  Vigorous. Home, village. All ages. Positive language attitude. Shan [shn] is the lingua franca for intercommunication among Palaung groups, Shan [shn], Kachin [kac], and smaller groups such as Lisu [lis].
Comments  Included under De’ang official nationality in China. SVO. Buddhist.
