Population  1,500 (1995 D. Bradley), decreasing. Ethnic population: 2,000.
Region  South Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Jinghong County, Xiaojie (3 villages) and Menglong (1 village) districts.
Alternate names   Buxia
Dialects  Similar to Bisu [bzi] and Phunoi [pho].
Classification  Sino-Tibetan, Tibeto-Burman, Burmic, Ngwi, Southern
Language use  Low prestige. Most also use Mandarin Chinese [cmn], Hani [hni] (particularly the Yani variety of Haya dialect) or Tai Lü. Some also use Lahu [lhu].
Comments  Classified as Hani nationality. Prenasalized initial consonants. Both -p -t -k endings and open syllables with tense vowels. Verbal particles which agree in number with the subject of the sentence.
