Region  Assam, Tinsukia District, Margherita Subdivision, Dibrugarh, Sibsagar districts; Arunachal Pradesh, Lohit, and Changlang districts.
Alternate names   Jingphaw, Kachin, Sing-Fo
Dialects  Lexical similarity: 50% with Jingpho [kac] of Myanmar.
Classification  Sino-Tibetan, Tibeto-Burman, Jingpho-Konyak-Bodo, Jingpho-Luish, Jingpho
Language use  Used only in the home. Also use Assamese [asm].
Language development  Literacy rate in L2: Less than 40%. Need for vernacular literacy is expressed by the community. Bible portions: 1907.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  Many loans from Khamti [kht]. ‘Kachin’ refers to a cultural, rather than a linguistic group. A Scheduled Tribe. Agriculturalists. Buddhist, syncretism.
