Population  38,000 (1999).
Region  North central, Sourou Province.

Alternate names   Northeastern Samo, Sa, San
Dialects  Bounou, Kiembara (Northeastern Goe), Bangassogo, Gomboro. Intelligibility with Matya Samo [stj] varies between 28% and 50%, depending on the village and text tested; with Southern Samo [sbd] it is less than 10%.
Classification  Niger-Congo, Mande, Eastern, Eastern, Samo
Language use  Vigorous. All domains. All ages. In the east, young people learn Mòoré [mos] well and it is the trade language; in the west Jula [dyu] is the important trade language. French is used in primary and secondary schools.
Language development  Literacy rate in L1: Below 2%. Literacy rate in L2: Below 20% French, below 10% Mòoré.
