Region  Kerala, Wayanad District, Kalpetta, Meppadi, Muttil and Ambalavayal panchayats, Malappuram District, Nilambur area.
Alternate names   Moopan, Thacchanadens, Thachanad Muppans
Dialects  60-64% with Malayalam, 50-54% with Tamil, 66-72% with Mullu Kurumba.
Classification  Dravidian, Southern, Unclassified
Language use  Some use Malayalam in home and village, esp. with children. Use is less among young people but complete language shift not expected in the immediate future. used in home and village domains by most. all ages. Neutral to positive attitude. Young people have more negative attitude towards it. Not much interest in language development. Most can speak some Malayalam.
Language development  Literacy rate in L2: 30% (2004 survey). Literacy rate much lower than state literacy rate.
Comments  A Scheduled Tribe. Plantation workers. Traditional religion mixed with Hinduism.
