Population  28,500 in Chad (1993 census). Population total all countries: 42,500.
Region  Far north desert, Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti region, Tibesti Department, Bardai area. Also in Libya, Niger, Nigeria.

Dialects  Lexical similarity: 67% with Daza [dzd].
Classification  Nilo-Saharan, Saharan, Western, Tebu
Language use  Most also use some Dazaga [dzg]. Some also use Chadian Spoken Arabic [shu].
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  ‘Teda’ is the name for the people. Many separate groups. Seminomadic. Thousands reported as residents of Libya. Well diggers; pastoralists: camels; warriors (Tubu). Muslim.

Region  Seguedine, Bilma, Termit-Kaoboul.

Language use  Also use Dazaga [dzg]. The majority use Arabic [aao].
Comments  ‘Teda’ is the name for the people. Outsider term ‘Tubu’ groups Dazaga and Tedaga. Seminomadic. Similar to Dazaga. Azzaga [dzg], the speech of the Azza, a caste division, is different from Tedaga, but its relation to Tedaga and to the speech of the Azza among the Daza is not known. Well diggers; pastoralists: camels. Muslim.

Region  Borno state, northeast LGAs. A few villages.
