A language of Ghana

Population  2,300 in Ghana (2003 GILLBT). 280 to 400 in Sandema District, probably about 280 in Kpaliwongo.
Region  North central, Sandema District, among Bulsa (Buli [bwu]); Navrongo, Bolgatonga, Nalerigu, and Kpaliwogo, near Wa. Also in Burkina Faso.

Dialects  Similar to Kamara [jmr], Farefare [gur], Dagbani [dag].
Classification  Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, North, Gur, Central, Northern, Oti-Volta, Western, Southeast
Language use  Vigorous. Endangered because people in some settlements now speak the language of those they have settled among: those in Funsi now speak Pasaale [sig], those near Wa now speak Wali [wlx]. Home. All ages. Speakers in Sandema also use Buli.
Language development  Taught in primary schools.
Comments  One source says they are from Niger or Mali. Kantosi is referred to as ‘Yare’ or ‘Yarsi’ by the Bulsa. Distinct from Dagari-Dioula [dgd] in Burkina Faso. Muslim.
