Population  2,480 (1995 census). 32 monolinguals.
Region  Oaxaca, near to Puebla border. Santiago Chazumba has largest group. Some in San Pedro y San Pablo Tequixtepec (in Oaxaca), Zapotitlán, Petlalcingo, and Totoltepec de Guerrero (in Puebla) villages.

Dialects  65% inherent intelligibility with Xayacatlán, 53% with Cacaloxtepec [miu], 24% with Chigmecatitlán [mii], 19% with Cuyamecalco [xtu] (Coatzospan).
Classification  Oto-Manguean, Mixtecan, Mixtec-Cuicatec, Mixtec
Language use  75% scattered over a large area, with most villages having fewer than 15% able to speak Mixtec. A large percentage of each village have shifted to Spanish. Mainly older adults.
