Dialects  39% intelligibility with Mitla [zaw] (most similar).

A member of macrolanguage Zapotec [zap] (Mexico).
Language use  Since 1979 Santo Domingo users have shown increasing preference for Zapotec, but in Santa María reportedly diminishing use. Some immigrant Mixe have learned local Zapotec, but few Zapotec learn Mixe. Also use Spanish.
Language development  Literacy rate in L1: 1%. Literacy rate in L2: 80%. Videos. Bible portions: 2000.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  VSO; varying word length, clitics and affixes; tonal. Swidden agriculturalists.
